, throughout my life and all the time.
But tonight I was sitting down to do some school work and I thought I would just reflect back on God's goodness over the last two weeks. I have recently been letting people know about prayer requests but have not been very good about sharing how God has seen us through things.
Two weeks ago today (05.05) I had my doctrinal (not doctoral) oral exam here on campus. Two hours of questions on doctrine and ministry issues. It was intense, stressful but also a very good learning experience. I am very thankful for the professors who were involved in graded and correcting my doctrinal paper and giving the exam.
The next day our baby girl, Jadyn Leah (see pictures in previous post was born). Everything went very well with the delivery and the time in the hospital. Krista did an amazing job and was a great testimony of God's provision and ability to answer prayer.
Friday (05.07) was graduation and moving day for the college students. Krista was able to enjoy a restful time in the hospital. Things seem to go well in Vibbard. The resident assistants did a great job from what I hear.
Krista and Jadyn came home on Saturday.
I started an intense two week Hebrew course, that is two days from completion. It has been very challenging time-wise balancing class work and family. At the same time the class has been very informative and helpful. One more day of class and then Friday is the exam.
Finally one of the biggest ways God has provided for us over the last two and a half weeks is through our parents.
My mom was able to be here from 05.01 through 05.09.
Krista's parents were here from 05.09 through 05.15.
They were very helpful in watching Joel and Josiah, preparing meals and helping with Jadyn.
Another blessing has been the members of our adult bible fellowship @ Heritage. They have not only been praying for us but they also have been helping us with preparing meals and watching the boys while I am taking this class.
We are very blessed and very thankful.

End of the semester...
This morning I took my doctrinal oral exam.
The last big assignment for the spring semester.
May 10th I start my last official class as an M.Div student. A two-week Hebrew summer module.
But before this class, though, we are waiting for the newest addition to the Rodgers' family. Krista is due on Friday.

Be Strong. Fight Bravely. Trust God.
When there is nowhere to turn, what do you do?
When you are at the end of your rope, what do you do?
When things seem to be going well, what do you do?
When you are amazed at how well things are going, what do you do?
In each of these circumstances:
Be strong.
Fight bravely.
Trust God.
With no where to turn, surrounded by enemies, Joab, one of David's commanders, positioned Abishai, his brother against one side while he prepared to fight the other.
His advice to Abishai was "Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our Good. The LORD will do what is good in his sight." (1 Chronicles 19:13)
As we are coming to the end of our time, I have realized and need to continue to trust in the truth of this passage.
I need to prepare as best as possible and trust that the LORD will do what is good in his sight. Whether it is housing, finances, ministry responsibilities or entering an internship with a new born baby, I need to trust in the LORD.
God has proven himself faithful and amazing throughout our time here @ BBC&S.
Four years ago, I could not imagine how God was going to work circumstances out for us.
He has over and over again.
Now, I wonder the same thing as we prepare to go to Toledo for internship but I know who God is and what He is able to do.

Veracity no matter what the weather is
This weeks is the BBC missions conference www.bbc.edu/Missions_conference/ and the plans are/were to take students out to various cities for an off campus opportunity to live out and share their faith. With the coming storms the original plans are changing.
As I think about the time and planning that has gone into the conference up to this point. It is my prayer that the attitudes and actions those who have been involved in the planning, myself included, would demonstrate a dependence and trust in God.
I am not sure what is going to happen over the next couple of days with the mission conference but I do know this truth. God is God and I am not. That is truth that I need to passionately live out.
Please pray that

no matter what the activities,
no matter what the circumstances,
students and staff will realize the importance of passionately glorifying God in their lives.

Pursuit of the Truth
This next week is going to be very busy for me. Very exciting. Very busy.
Later today I am going on an overnight men's retreat with Heritage Baptist Church. I am very excited about going to Arrowhead Campgroup to grow in Christian Character. Some of the sessions are on Holiness, Humility and Honesty.
I am looking forward to the retreat.
Pray for Krista and the boys this weekend.
Next week, starting Tuesday night, is Baptist Bible College's Mission Conference. The focus is on urban ministries. The theme word is VERACITY, which means a devotion to the truth. On Thursday we are planning to take over 400 students to various places to do and see ministry. Please pray for all the details of the conference, for the students, and for those who will hear the truth of Jesus Christ that day.
I will write more about the conference later but I need to get to class now.

Doctor appointments
I had a doctor's appointment this week.

The pins are out of my toes. However there is still a lot of swelling in my toes and ankles. The doctor, not Josiah, said there is nothing to be concerned about now.
With the diabetes, he was a little nervous about infection but it has not been a problem.
Krista's pregnancy is going well. She is experiencing tiredness which is probably from the pregnancy and dorm life.
Joel finished soccer season. He improved so much during the season. We think taking part in Big Blue soccer camp here @ BBC helped with that. He is also doing great in first grade. One of his school friends has started coming to AWANA at Heritage.
Josiah is enjoying Cubbies and once a week preschool @ BBC.
He loves washing dishes, singing and "teaching" the baby how to do things.

A Lesson from the Living Room Couch
Well this semester has been really busy. Good but busy.

Actually our time here @ BBC&S has been very busy.
Sitting on the couch, recovering from surgery has forced me to slow down a little bit.
"Never get so busy doing the work of the kingdom that you forget who the King is."

A temporarily slowed down life, this quote and much more have me thinking about our time @ BBC&S.
I have been very thankful for my experience here.
Especially the fact that the professors at the seminary stress the importance of a personal relationship along with a knowledge of the Bible.
I have also loved being able to take the things I have been learning in classes and applying them @ the Scranton Rescue Mission.

Health Update from the Rodgers family
This Tuesday Krista and I were able to hear the heartbeat of our baby.
The due date is May 7th, graduation day here @ BBC.
The boys are very excited to have a younger brother or sister.
Also, on Friday I am scheduled to have surgery on my left foot.
- I have a cyst on my ankle that needs to be removed.
- Two of my toes are going to be straigntened out.

09.11 - In the midst of Pain, Suffering and Affliction
On September 11, 2001, I was in the Dominican Republic.
Every Tuesday Missionary Flights International would bring the mail to Santiago Christian School.
On this particular mail day I received a copy of The Hidden Smile of God, a book on suffering, pain and affliction, from my brother-in-law.
Several years later, my copy of the book was destroyed in a fire @ Emmanuel Christian School.
Through the difficulties of both of these situations William Cowper's poem "God Moves in Mysterious Ways" speaks volumes to me about God and His goodness even in the midst of difficult times.

Start of the Semester
The school year @ BBC started a week ago on Tuesday.
DORM LIFE:
Krista had a very busy week of leadership training last week. But it was a good time to reconnect with this years RAs and dorm leaders.
They developed the dorm theme of PERFECT PROFILE:
Finding the Face of God in His Book.
The theme passage is Psalm 62.
Please pray that the 24 new women in our dorm and the other 25 women will grow closer to God as the live in community in Vibbard Hall.
SEMINARY CLASSES:
Don't start until September 7.
I will be taking Hebrew and Pastoral Epistles (1 & 2 Timothy, Titus).
RESCUE MISSION:
Things at the mission have been going great.

My activities and priorities
MY ACTIVITIES:
From Thursday to Sunday night I have been to Philadelphia and back to Clarks Summit, then to Pittsburgh and back to Clarks Summit and then to Rochester, NY and back to Clarks Summit. (over 1400 miles of driving or riding in a car.

- Thursday - I went to Lincoln Financial Field to see the Philadelphia Eagles lose to the New England Patriots in my first ever live football game. O.K. I know it was only preseason.
- Friday and Saturday - Drove out to Pittsburgh and dropped the boys of at grammy's house for the week with her and Aunt Deb and cousins Jacob and Nolan.
- Sunday - Travelled with Krista to Rochester, NY to attend the celebration service of a 37 year old college friend who passed away very unexpectedly.
MY PRIORITIES:
I light of these events and one of the tributes shared @ Keith's Celebration service, I have been evaluating life's priorities and I wanted to share some insights with you.
Priorities in rank of importance:
1. Live life in such a way that God is glorified. This is done first and foremost through personal, life changing relationship with Jesus.
2. Remember the importance of spending time with family.
Much further down on the list: NFL football. There are so many things that are more important than an NFL football.

From Saturday (07.11) through Monday (07.20), Krista, the boys and I went to visit family and friends out west (western PA and Toledo, OH).
We spent a couple of days @ the church camp Dave went as a teen. It was great to spend time with friends and family.
After that we went out to Toledo and got to spend time with Krista's family.

The end of June Update
We are going to be making trip to western PA and Ohio very soon. All of us are looking forward to reconnecting with friends and family.

Josiah surgery/recovery and other things
Josiah had his tonsils and adenoids removed on Thursday (06.18).
Thankfully it well. Presently, he is not talking as much as usual but he does enjoy popsicles and ice cream.
Please continue to pray for his recover.
This summer, and I use that term loosely because it hasn't been much like summer, we have had some good day trips. Knoebels, an amusement park. Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees game. Sight and Sound Theater.
We had a great time with my sister and her boys.
Along with that work at the mission has been going well. Please pray for the services at the Scranton Rescue Mission on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
Especially be praying for the resident program in Wilkes-Barre.

Our Father in Heaven
A couple of nights ago we were doing a family devotions before bed.
We read a devotional called "The Perfect Dad." At one point in the devotional Krista asked Josiah who our father in heaven is. With a quick response he said "God." What followed was a very thoughtful look, a couple of seconds and another answer. "And Pappy" (which is what we call David's dad).
For those who don't know, my dad passed away several years ago. Well, reflecting back on Josiah's answer I realized two things:

- It was not very theological sound. O.K. so I am a seminary student.
- It brought joy to my heart. I am very thankful that my earthly father is in heaven. I know that this is by grace that he has been saved through faith - and this not from himsef, it is the gift of my heavenly father. (adapted from Ephesians 2:8).
Pray for Josiah. He is having his tonsils and adenoids removed on June 18th.

No More Shots
I had my 6 month doctor appointment with my endocrinologist today.
He said my sugar levels and other numbers have been improving.
I do not need to take insulin shots. I am continuing with medication and diet.
This is great news for someone who hates needles and shots.
Also, tomorrow night is a big senior social on campus. BBCs Got Talent. Be praying for preparation and last minute details.

Worship services & Doctor Appointment
Last Thursday our friend Josh along with several others from Proskuneo Ministry were here in Clarks Summit for a multilingual worship service. We had 25 people there not including volunteers. For a rainy Thursday night, that was a good number. There were a couple of people who have not been there in quite some time. It was a great opportunity to share Christ in a different way. Many of the people who were there have shared that it was a real blessing. The worship service at BBC that evening was also awesome. We sang worship songs in NINE different languages.

Proskuneo Worship Service
Tonight Proskuneo, a ministry that a friend of ours is part of, will be leading two worship services in the Scranton area.
5:30 at the Scranton Rescue Mission. This is an evangelistic service.

Doctor visit, Toledo visit and More classes.
Last week I met with our family doctor. He was pleased with my sugar levels. This "new normal" has been difficult but everyone in the family is jumping on board. Josiah reminds me to check my diobeaties before meals. Joel asks me if snacks are sugar free.
We are looking forward to going back to Toledo next weekend (03.14-03.17).
This Monday I started two more classes online.
Now I am taking 7 credits during this spring semester
Daniel/Revelation; Training others in Evangelism; Acts (online) and Contemporary Theological Issues (online).
We are in the process of adding some things to the Scranton Rescue Mission webpage. One addition is a prayer page.

In Akron, OH hearing about God's Transforming Power
I (David) am in Akron, OH for an Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM) training conference. It is been an amazing experience. On Monday night, 41 of the attendees sat in a circle and shared briefly about our lives. Twenty three of the testimonies were from men who at one time were in rescue mission programs. They spoke about their drug addictions and/or alcoholism. Then they shared about the AMAZING, TRANSFORMING GRACE of God. What an amazing blessing that time was.

As I think about the amazing ministry opportunity God's has given me at the Scranton Rescue Mission.

Super Bowl
It has taken me a little bit of time to post regarding Super Bowl Sunday.
I was very excited that the Steelers won.
I was also VERY EXCITED about the opportunity I had to share the Gospel @ Heritage Baptist Church's FanZone event. I spoke to the middle school students upstairs.
This was the report the youth pastor sent out the next day.
Our annual Fanzone Outreach here at Heritage has always been designed to bring glory to God. By working together as an entire church body, we are able to provide an excellent, positive environment where Heritage students can watch the game with unsaved friends and be assured that those friends will hear the Gospel clearly and creatively. This year, we officially partnered with Summit Baptist Bible Church and enjoyed great blessings from the combined prayers and resources of God’s people.
More than 200 students and adults passed through our doors for Fanzone last Sunday night. Many of those individuals were students from the Clarks Summit area who do not attend Gospel-preaching local churches. Upstairs in our auditorium, the 7-8 grade students enjoyed watching the game, as well as participating in activities like GaGa Ball, ping-pong, video games, and the Moon Bounce. Meanwhile, in the Youth Wing downstairs, 9-12 grade teens played video games, ping pong, wrestled in Sumo Suits, and enjoyed the football game on our big screens also. At the conclusion of the halftime Gospel presentations (by Dave Rodgers and Ken Gardoski), students were encouraged to respond by finding an adult or a Christian friend if they wanted to know more about a relationship with Christ. At least 8 students indicated that they accepted Christ as their personal Savior during the invitation. Throughout the rest of the evening, many teenagers and adults had conversations with guests who had questions about spiritual matters. I believe God will use those conversations to further impact our teenage community for His name in the coming days, weeks, and months. Before the end of the evening, each of our guests also received an copy of the Scriptures, as well as more information about how to receive Christ (not to mention all the other amazing prizes!).
Joel and Josiah also enjoyed the event and the game. Joel made Steeler signs for the family and after the game Josiah was running around throwing a football at people while saying he was Ben Rosibergie.

2nd Semester 2009
We have started the spring semester 2009 here at BBC&S.
We had a good break visiting family and spending time together here as a family.
Regretably, the weekend we were in Toledo, church was cancelled. We missed visiting with friends that Sunday.

I also have a ministry opportunity to speak @ our churches Fanzone Party on Feb. 1st.
Krista's ministry in the dorm is going well.
She is actually sitting in on a Women Counseling Women class that will assist her in her current and future ministries.

- The Wyoming Valley Rescue Mission is now meeting on Monday nights in our new building in Wilkes Barre. We are hoping to start the residency program in a couple of months. Be praying for all the details with this.

December 2008
This week, the Rescue Mission went before the zoning board in Wilkes-Barre again. The 2-2 tie was broken in our favor. Please be praying for Phil Schultz and the rest of the rescue mission staff as we prepare for this next ministry phase in Northeast PA.
I finished up my fall semester. I must say it was very different than I envisioned but we know that God is in control.
My sugar levels have been much better. I have a couple of days when I was under 120 the whole day. A good level is between 80 and 120. Please continue to be praying for my health.
Vibbard Hall is now empty, except for our family. While there were challenges throughout the semester, it has been great to watch Krista care for and minister to the girls in the dorm. Please continue to pray for her ministry here at the college.
We are planning to be in Toledo the December 24th through 28th for Christmas with Krista's family.

Update on Rescue Mission in Wilkes-Barre

We went before the Zoning Board last night in Wilkes-Barre and after lengthy discussion they voted 2 for and 2 against (a tie is not a win).

We stand on the eve of not just an historical moment in the life of our ministry, but one for northeastern Pennsylvania. The Lord willing, we will soon join the 12 cities in Pa and the 300 cities across America in providing a residential program to the homeless. Please pray for me as I go before the Zoning Board in Wilkes-Barre at 4:30pm on Wednesday (11.19). Several of you have heard some of the testimonies of how God is using us to transform lives in Scranton- trust me, you haven't seen anything yet!

Life @ BBC&S
Today (11.18) I had an endocrinologist appointmet. I feel like I have spent a lot of time recently at appointments with our general doctor, the endocrinologist, podiatrist and dietician.
The great news is that my blood sugar level have dropped from upper 300s to mid/upper 100's. Please pray that with diet, exercise and medicine we would be able to get my sugar levels below 120.
For those of you who may not have heard, we have decided to extend our time here at BBC&S by a year. With my health and schedule we realized it was better to slow down than to push through at an overwhelming pace. It was a difficult decision but one we both have peace about.
Krista has a been enjoying being part of a Monday night Bible study on the Psalms. It is led by Joanna Arp, a woman who is an amazing Bible teacher and a great mentor to Krista.
Continue to pray for Krista as she balances family life with ministry to the girls in the dorm. She is also working on a grad class to keep up her teaching certification.
Joel is doing great in kindergarten. He loves school. His soccer season ended two weeks ago. Grandma and Grandpa were there for the last game. Joel is very proud of his medal.
One of Joel's AWANA teachers recently commented about his amazing ability to remember Bible verses. He is doing great with the weekly memory verses.
Josiah is the cutest 2 year old in Vibbard Hall. Everyone agrees. He loves singing, dancing and trying to keep up with his big brother. Josiah also has a good memory as well as a sensitive heart and will pray at meals (or in the car) for things he's heard about throughout the day. One of his regular prayers when David is at work or class is "God, Daddy come back, safe, my house."
